Saving Sampson....Born in the Wild

The weather had been harsh in the middle of Arkansas this winter. To the best of our knowledge Sampson was born at the end of September to a mother who has been a feral dog for some time.We assume this was not her first litter but who knows-ferals don't tend to live very long so we could be wrong. He came with all the right traits-the medium sized, shepard-husky features witha sheltie type coat and what would be the tell tale sign-a curled tail with a white tip at the end. I didn't know he was a true feral. We only knew he had been foiund in a ditch eating road kill-a deer that had presumably been hit by a car and dead for some time. The call, from a concerned rersident of White County was placed to Jaxie Hepner-cruely invesigator who takes in the strays and throw away mill dogs of White County. Sampson was seen with his five other sibling and mother along the highway. Jaxie's husband was only able to coax Sampson (originally named Clark) and his brother to safety. The mother ran off-as ferals will do, with the four others and were never seen again. He had parasites and came to us with dental issues that will probably require root canal but, he is so gentle and so soft. We will be able to provide him with a safe and loving life but, Sampson is not like our other rescues-he is different. He knows we have changed his life but, Sampson doesn't seem to realize how much he has changed our lives in return.
